 Last week David Amess’ portrait appeared in a one off unique parliamentary photographic exhibition to raise awareness of lung cancer, the most common cancer worldwide. In the UK alone, lung cancer causes around 35,000 deaths a year.

On the 9th of April 1992, Mr Amess retained his seat against overwhelming odds, and in the process revealed to the world that the Conservatives would be staying in power.  David Amess MP has backed a stunning new film documenting the Presidency of Mohammed Nasheed in the Maldives. Running from the first year of President Nasheed's reign, and culminating at the 2009 Copenhagen Climate Summit in 2009, Jon Shenk's film focuses on the uphill struggle faced by these beautiful Islands against the onslaught of climate change. To highlight the extent of the environmental problem, a rise in sea level of just 3ft would submerge many of the 1200 Islands.

 Local MP David Amess took great pleasure in judging the Leigh-on-Sea Town Council Easter Bonnet competition over the recent Easter Weekend at the Leigh Library Gardens. It was a wonderful family event, and all who took part enjoyed celebrating Easter. Mr Amess said: “It was lovely to see how much hard work the children had put into making their fantastic Easter Bonnets. I hope they enjoyed the day as much as I did”.

 David Amess, MP for Southend West, recently attended an Olympic inspired event featuring artists and athletes from across Essex. ‘Journey to the Podium’ was part of ‘Arts in Parliament’, a free programme of cultural events taking place in Westminster Hall this summer. Local artist David Shields has been selected to take part and his work ‘Body Mind Commitment’ shows different aspects of the dedication required to compete as a professional sportsman.
