  David Amess, Local MP for Southend West has backed a new campaign by the UK’s leading children’s heart charity, The Children’s Heart Federation, which seeks to increase early diagnosis of heart conditions for children.  

  David Amess MP for Southend West joined celebrity TV GP, Dr Chris Steele MBE, the resident doctor on ITV’s This Morning, at a reception in Parliament to support Coeliac UK’s campaign to improve the diagnosis and awareness of coeliac disease and the need to improve the availability of gluten-free food.

  David Amess MP made sure that Southend got a mention in the recent Whitsun Adjournment debate. The Southend West MP proudly told the Commons of the most recent achievements in the town, including the new cultural centre recently added to the end of the pier and the announcement that Mark Foster will be one of the torchbearers on the 6th July.

  David Amess MP met with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) at a parliamentary reception where it launched its new eye health campaign Save our Sight (SOS).

There are around two million people in the UK with sight problems and the number of people at risk of the main causes of blindness - cataract, glaucoma, wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic eye disease is set to increase by up to 25 per cent in the decade leading up to 2020.

 David Amess MP and the Rt Hon Mark Francois played host last night to friends, family, colleagues and even the Prime Minister at an event to mark the 1992 General Election Victory in Basildon. Starting in the prestigious Boothroyd Room, guests were treated to a few warm words from the Prime Minister, who commented on Mr Amess’ ‘eternal youth’ and recalled his memories of that election at Conservative Central Headquarters.

 Mr Amess has been asked to stand again for the 1922 Committee but has declined. In a statement today he said:

 Yesterday saw an historic state opening of Parliament. After a the longest sitting for over a hundred years, Her Majesty the Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, delivered her customary speech to both Houses. She outlined the Government’s forthcoming legislative programme, which demonstrated commitment to economic recovery, support for families and key changes to the law to deal with terrorism and organised crime.

 David Amess, MP for Southend West, bowled the first bowl of the season in Southend this weekend. Mr Amess visited Eastwood Park Bowls Club and Chlkwell Bowling Club. He said “I have thoroughly enjoyed my visits today and would like to wish bowlers in Southend a very successful season”.
