 David Amess MP last night watched his old friend and colleague Ann Widdecombe in her new role as Duchesse de Crackentorp in Gaetano Donizetti's comic opera,La Fille Du Regiment. Taking his seat alongside his daughter Katherine in the Royal Opera House, Mr Amess watched with great delight as Ann graced the stage in her non speaking, fifteen minute part.

 The amazing work of a young Southend West carer has been recognised at an awards ceremony in the House of Commons. Stephanie Migliorini received a prize for ‘Most Inspirational Young Person’ which was presented by her local MP David Amess. In his congratulatory speech, Mr Amess praised Stephanie’s ‘devotion and dedication’ in looking after her two brothers and described the 17 year old as a ‘truly amazing young carer’.

 David Amess, MP for Southend West, joined his constituents at the Leigh on Sea Town Council’s May Day celebrations. Mr Amess was joined by Cllr Sally Carr, who will become Mayor of Southend on Sea this week. He said “I enjoyed celebrating May Day and congratulate all those who took part”.

 David Amess, MP for Southend West, spent the evening supporting local choir The Southend Festival Chorus over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. They performed Vaughan Williams’ Mass in G Minor and Five Mystical Songs followed by Frank Martin’s Mass for Double Choir at the Crowstone Christian Centre. Mr Amess said “As ever, The Southend Festival Chorus put on a fantastic show which made for a wonderful evening. It was a great way to celebrate the Easter Weekend.”

 David Amess, MP for Southend West, spent the afternoon of the recent Good Friday bank holiday delivering Easter eggs to sick children at Southend Hospital Children’s Ward. The eggs were kindly donated by local supermarkets. Mr Amess said “It was a pleasure to cheer up some of these children who are very ill and having to spend the holiday weekend in hospital. I hope they enjoyed their eggs!”

 David Amess, MP for Southend West, has nominated local Indian restaurant Memsaab Tandoori, Leigh on Sea, to Parliament’s Tiffin Cup. Each year, MPs nominate a restaurant in their constituency to be named best South Asian restaurant in the UK. The competition offers the opportunity to celebrate the diversity of British culture and recognises the importance of South Asian cuisine. This year, each nominated restaurant is invited to submit a recipe which will be included in the Tiffin Cookery Book.

 David Amess, MP for Southend West, is pleased to announce ‘An Audience with Ann Widdecombe’ on Thursday 26 April at 8:00 pm at the Palace Theatre, Cliffs Pavilion. The evening will include an interview with Ann conducted by David Amess, followed by the opportunity for the audience to ask Ann questions. Ann will also be signing books during the interval.

David Amess will join his family in celebrating his mother, Maud’s, 100th birthday next week. Mrs Amess, who will reach this momentous age on 2 May, lives in East London. Mr Amess said “I look forward to celebrating this wonderful occasion with my mother and the rest of the family. We are anticipating the Queen’s birthday message!”

 David Amess, MP for Southend West, was very pleased to support local musicians on Sunday in their efforts to take part in a ‘musicathon’ in aid of Mencap. Leigh Town Councillor David Stanley and his fellow musician Liam Ambrose performed on Southend Pier non-stop for 24 hours over the weekend. They were joined by members of the Southend Mencap Music School and the Mayors of Southend and Castle Point.
