As another year dawns, all of us no doubt, will reflect on what the last year has been like for us. I fully appreciate that in terms of the state of the British Economy, it could not have been a tougher year for people. Perhaps the public events that cheered us up would have been the magnificent Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the Olympic Games. If ever there was a year when the British people rediscovered their patriotic roots, it was in the year 2012.

Mr David Amess visited Leigh Fire Station on Friday 14th of December as part of his annual Christmas visits. Mr Amess thanked the fire station for working hard to keep members of the public out of harm’s way. In addition to Mr Amess’ praises the fire fighters received a number of gifts from the festive MP.

The grand finale to the Christmas Visits of David Amess MP took place at Woodcutters Pub, where a brightly lit bolt blue tree was hoisted on to the roof. Simultaneously, the Belfair’s ‘best dressed shop window’ was judged, with runner up being opticians JG Bentley and Associates, and the outright winner proclaimed as ‘Fancy Anything’, the fancy dress shop based on Eastwood Road North.

Mr Amess was delighted to announce that having spoken to Craig Revel Horwood, his  Pantomime would be coming to Southend next year!  Last night, Mr Amess was lucky enough to attend a pantomime directed and performed by Craig Revel Horwood, co-starring none other than former MP Anne Widdecombe.

On the 14th of December Mr Amess visited Southend’s Homeless Action Resource Project. Mr Amess spread Christmas cheer by handing out chocolates to staff and volunteers while praising the continuous hard work of the organisation.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is conducting an in-depth review of the library service with an intention to ensure it caters to the needs of residents. A further aim of the review is to make certain that the library is operating in a way that is financially sound.

With Christmas fast approaching, Mr Amess is set to visit various local charities, essential services and organisations. Mr Amess will make his first stop at the Children’s Ward at Southend Hospital, which is a highlight every Christmas, before visiting both Southend Ambulance Station and Leigh Fire Station.

Sunday morning saw a very special carol service take place at Chalkwell Park Methodist Church. In this case, four legged friends were just as welcome as the more conventional carol singers. Cats and Dogs were so welcome that they even has separate bathrooms! Many of the fury friends can be see pictured above.
