With the festive season approaching its climax, David Amess MP was delighted to award two shops in Leigh with prizes for having the best Christmas window displays in Leigh. Although all the shops had made an extreme effort this year, producing some beautiful displays, there had to be a winner and this year it was Fancy Nancy patisserie.  Pictured here with Mr Amess, the owner of the shop, Juliette Sear, showed him the festive cakes which the shop had baked.

David Amess MP travelled the width and breadth of Southend West yesterday to deliver an early batch of Christmas presents. Dressed as Father Christmas, he visited the children’s ward in Southend Hospital, Leigh Fire Station, the local Post Office sorting offices, Nazareth House, Fairhavens and the Salvation Army.

David Amess MP made a special visit to the Orchard Theatre in Dartford to see his old friend, Ann Widdecombe, make her debut performance as a pantomine performer in their production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Playing the part of ‘Widdy-in-Waiting’, Ann Widdecombe is performing along other celebrity names such as Craig Revel Horwood, a panellist in Stictly Come Dancing, another field which Ann Widdecombe has recently ventured into.

 David Amess MP gave a speech on Sunday as part of a ceremony to mark 110 years of the Salvation Army in Leigh on Sea. Praising the efforts of this highly valued institution, Mr Amess commented on how the Salvation Army has provided stability for the community of Leigh over the past century and more, despite the world around it changing beyond recognition.

  David Amess MP has pledged his support for Fair Havens Hospice in their quest to find a new location. With a mere capacity of ten rooms, the current hospice as it stands is not nearly big enough to cope with the increasing demand that it is facing, meaning potential beneficiaries are turned away. The current site is also becoming increasingly outdated and impractical.

 David Amess MP provided his support for better financial education in schools today by attending the launch of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Financial Education for Young People report on Financial Education and the Curriculum. The report recommends the Government should promote the provision of high quality financial education in schools in England.

 New figures reveal that in Southend West, 5000 homes are entitled to some form of assistance with their fuel bills. Worth an average of £250 per household, this assistance might go unclaimed by many, whilst others could be left confused by their energy bills. In response to these concerns, the free Home Heat Helpline has been set up to offer free and practical advice on saving money on energy bills.
