On Sunday 4th December Mr Amess joined the congregation of the Greek Orthodox of St Barbara to honour their patron saint, St Barbara.

A new report launched in Westminster yesterday revealed the hidden burden of skin cancer across the country and called for urgent action to address the wide variations in the standards of care skin cancer patients receive.

The Meningitis Research Foundation yesterday launched its latest briefing for Government, setting out their practical recommendations on how to improve the treatment and prevention of Meningitis in the UK.

David Amess MP joined other MPs today to meet with the Royal College of Midwives and to discuss the findings of their new report into the current state of the Maternity Services in the UK.  Through the medium of the media, the Royal College of Midwives is making the public aware of the pressures on maternity services which are facing rising demands, massive midwife shortages and an ageing midwifery workforce. 

 On the 23rd November, David Amess MP attended the Caritas Social Action Network Parliamentary Reception, hosted by Labour MP Jon Cruddas. Joined by other Members, a selection of clergy and senior representatives of several charities, including Childcare (Brentwood Catholic Children’s Society), a Caritas supported society operating in Southend West, the reception gave Mr Amess the opportunity to discuss the latest developments affecting his constituency.

 David Amess MP joined other animal lovers last evening at the launch of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home’s ‘Staffies: Softer Than You Think’ campaign. The event, held at Westminster, had the aim of unveiling the true nature of the surprisingly soft Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

David Amess MP has this month backed the vinspired National Awards 2012, which celebrate the brilliant contribution that young volunteers (aged 16-25) make to their communities.

The annual awards offer an opportunity to highlight the positivity, creativity and dedication demonstrated by young volunteers across England every day. The awards also honour inspiring youth leaders, who are committed to encouraging young volunteers. And, for the first time this year, will include a category for outstanding National Citizen Service (NCS) teams.

David Amess MP welcomes the joint Customer Focus/Citizens Advice Campaign which aims to help advise people who are falling behind with their energy bills.

With temperatures starting to plummet, many people face the challenge of how to afford to keep their home warm this winter. 43% of people in the South East are unsure whether they can afford to pay their energy bills this winter according to the watchdog Customer Focus.[1]

David Amess joined Father Ian and the congregation of St Margaret’s church on Saturday 26th November to celebrate the start of the festive season by opening their Christmas market. Father Christmas even attended to join members in their festive cheer!
