With representatives from Battersea Dogs Home, the Dogs Trust and the RSPCA, to name but a few, the campaign seeks to unite organisations in order to provide multi agency solutions to the issue in question.

As the area with the highest proportion of centenarians in the country, it is not surprising that David Amess MP had the pleasure of attending two 100th Birthday parties this weekend. Celebrating their landmark birthdays were Kathleen Turner, a resident at St Edith’s Court and Hilda Hainsworth (pictured left), a resident at Crowstone House. They both celebrated with their wonderful families and friends and looked much younger than their years.

David Amess MP had much pleasure in awarding, alongside the Mayor of Southend and local councillors, Fay Evans and Lesley Salter, the prize for the Christmas Best Dressed Shop Competition 2011. The winners in what was a hotly contested competition was J G Bentley & Associates Opticians. Second place went to Belfairs Pharmacy and third to Belfairs Newsagents.

David Amess MP last night attended the launch of the Woodland Trust’s ‘Jubilee Woods’ project. The campaign, designed to coincide with Queen Elizabeth II’s historic Diamond Jubilee, will see the Woodlands Trust ask people across the country to come together in order to plant six million new trees. With HRH Princess Royal as Patron, the project is set to create hundreds of new woods, transforming the landscape in a generation and making a real difference for many years to come.
