This afternoon, Westcliff High School for Girls Choir gave a wonderful performance in the Atrium of Portcullis House on the Parliamentary Estate in Westminster. The girls sang a number of Christmas songs to a delighted crowd, including “Walking in the Air” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”.

Southend West MP David Amess today attended the 2009 Westminster Dog of the Year show at Victoria Tower Gardens. Many MPs and their canine friends were entered into the show and battled it out in the show ring for first place.

David Amess, Member of Parliament for Southend West, helped Harry Hart celebrate his 100th birthday at St James Church Hall in Leigh this weekend.  Harry has lived in Leigh since he retired from the Post Office in 1975. He was married to Doris from 1940 until her death 55 years later and has two sons and a grandson. David was delighted to receive the invitation from Harry’s son George and joined a crowd of well-wishers for the occasion on Saturday 21st November.

On Tuesday 17th November, David Amess, Member of Parliament for Southend West, hosted a Chinese delegation at the House of Commons. The visit was arranged by the Britain-China Economic & Culture Exchange Centre and participants included officials and researchers from Tiangdeng, Nanning, Chongzuo and Guangxi.

Member for Leicester, East (Keith Vaz) wants speeches that will cheer him up, but I am afraid that I will disappoint him, because my speech will be along similar lines to that of my right hon. Friend the Member for Wokingham (Mr. Redwood). However, I agree with the right hon. Gentleman about the quality of the mover and seconder of the Loyal Address.
