David Amess

This afternoon, Westcliff High School for Girls Choir gave a wonderful performance in the Atrium of Portcullis House on the Parliamentary Estate in Westminster. The girls sang a number of Christmas songs to a delighted crowd, including “Walking in the Air” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”. 

Southend West MP David Amess today attended the 2009 Westminster Dog of the Year show at Victoria Tower Gardens. Many MPs and their canine friends were entered into the show and battled it out in the show ring for first place. 

David Amess, Member of Parliament for Southend West, helped Harry Hart celebrate his 100th birthday at St James Church Hall in Leigh this weekend.  Harry has lived in Leigh since he retired from the Post Office in 1975. He was married to Doris from 1940 until her death 55 years later and has two sons and a grandson. David was delighted to receive the invitation from Harry’s son George and joined a crowd of well-wishers for the occasion on Saturday 21st November. 

On Friday 13th November Southend West MP, David Amess, joined forces with enthusiastic volunteers across Southend and the country in response to CSV’s Make a Difference Day.

On Tuesday 17th November, David Amess, Member of Parliament for Southend West, hosted a Chinese delegation at the House of Commons. The visit was arranged by the Britain-China Economic & Culture Exchange Centre and participants included officials and researchers from Tiangdeng, Nanning, Chongzuo and Guangxi.

David Amess, Member of Parliament for Southend West, and South East Essex Greenpeace planted an apple tree on Saturday 21st November at the Women's Environmental Network plot at the Manchester Drive allotments in Leigh.  

Mr. David Amess (Southend, West) (Con): The right hon. Member for Leicester, East (Keith Vaz) wants speeches that will cheer him up, but I am afraid that I will disappoint him, because my speech will be along similar lines to that of my right hon. Friend the Member for Wokingham (Mr. Redwood). However, I agree with the right hon. Gentleman about the quality of the mover and seconder of the Loyal Address.

David Amess, Member of Parliament for Southend West, criticised government legislative plans outlined in this year's Queen’s Speech. Speaking in the House of Commons on the occasion of the State Opening of Parliament, Mr Amess lamented the loss of MPs’ powers to unelected quangos and criticised the Government’s handling of the economy and the war in Afghanistan.

David Amess, Member of Parliament for Southend West, invited local clergy from across the constituency to a meeting at Iveagh Hall on Friday 20th November. David was keen to hear about issues of concern to local clergy, their communities and their parishioners. The event was very successful and a range of issues were discussed, including education, health and social care. 

David Amess, Member of Parliament for Southend West, this weekend had the opportunity to meet the remarkable local boy who has inspired millions of television viewers across the UK.
