Arriva Southern Counties have today launched a revised 18 bus route, which will connect Eastwood and Leigh-on-Sea. Arriva has made this change in response to requests from local residents wanting a direct service to the shops in Leigh.

David Amess, Member of Parliament for Southend West, today presented Juliet Sear of Fancy Nancy with a bottle of House of Commons wine for having the best dressed shop window in Leigh. 

 

Fancy Nancy creates individually designed cakes of the highest quality is recognised as one of the UK’s leading cake designers, being regularly featured in the national press.  David was extremely impressed with the shop’s spectacular snowy display, which even featured a giant gingerbread man and woman.

Speaking on the floor of the House of Commons today, David Amess MP called on the government to support the Which? campaign for country-of-origin food labelling and back British food. The Southend West MP was contributing to the oral question session for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Recent research by Which? showed that eight in ten people think it is important that the country-of-origin is labelled on meat and poultry while three quarters believe it is important for fruit and vegetables and dairy products.

David Amess, Member of Parliament for Southend West, last week presented Alison Semmence, Chief Executive of SAVS (Southend Association of Voluntary Services) with the organisation’s well-deserved PQASSO certificate.  PQASSO (Practical Quality Assurance System for Small Organisations) is the most widely used quality assurance system within the voluntary and community sector and is a formal recognition of the wonderful work SAVS is doing in the Southend area.

Mr. David Amess (Southend, West) (Con): In a similar vein to my hon. Friend the Member for Cotswold (Mr. Clifton-Brown), I wish to raise several issues. This is the last Christmas Adjournment debate before we face a general election, and this has been a dreadful year. Labour has succeeded in destroying the country and it has destroyed this place. The place in which we work has been greatly diminished. We are seen as an irrelevance and no longer as an attractive ornament.
