David Amess

Following Armed Forces Day 2011, David Amess MP has taken the opportunity to say thank you to all those that are serving in the Armed Forces, their families, veterans and cadets and has encouraged everyone to show their support following a thoroughly successful day.

Commenting on last week’s Armed Forces Day Mr Amess said:

The Mughal Dynasty has been chosen to represent Southend West as one of the 12 national finalists in the prestigious Tiffin Cup competition.  The Grand Final of the Lyca Tiffin Cup 2011 is to be held in the House of Commons on Wednesday the 6th July 2011.  The competition is held each year to find the best South Asian restaurant in the country.

Benjamin Grosvenor, a 19 year old local musician, became the youngest ever soloist to perform the First Night of the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday.  The young pianist has been widely touted as one of the best up-and-coming pianinsts in the country and has just signed a record deal with Decca Records.  Such was the excitement surrounding the performance the queues for standing room had been snaking hundreds of yards down the street.

Local MP, David Amess has joined television and radio presenter Anne Diamond in backing a campaign by Action on Hearing Loss - formerly RNID - urging Southend West residents to get their hearing checked.

David Amess took time out for a special Strawberry Tea party in the House of Commons on Tuesday 14 June.

Arranged by Breast Cancer Care, the event was a chance for David to find out more about the charity’s work supporting people affected by breast cancer and the issues that are important to the 50,000 people diagnosed with the disease each year.

To mark Food Safety Week, David Amess MP attended a Parliamentary event hosted by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to highlight a new national scheme which will give people the chance to choose the places with the highest hygiene standards when eating out or doing their food shopping.

David Amess, MP for Southend West, lent their support this week to an event highlighting the importance of improving children’s oral health. Attending a meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Dentistry at Parliament, he discovered how local targeted schemes are being used in some areas to tackle oral health inequalities.

David Amess MP has been having a unique meeting with unpaid carers at the House of Commons to better understand the challenges they face. The speed-networking event has been designed to increase the understanding of the lives of carers in his constituency.

Gok Wan has unveiled the latest stage in his efforts to lobby Parliament over body confidence lessons at school at a receptionin the Houses of Parliament.  In his new series coming to Channel 4 this summer, Gok is reigniting his commitment to get teenagers the help and support they need to deal with personal issues through body confidence lessons in school.
