On Saturday, 22nd August David Amess, Member of Parliament for Southend West, joined a number of D-Day Veterans from across Southend to be a part of the Southend Carnival illuminated procession.

David entertained the veterans and Chelsea Pensioners at the Grosvenor Hotel, Westcliff-on-Sea whilst they enjoyed some tea and light refreshments before they all set out to join the Carnival Procession.

The Veterans boarded the open-top bus along with David and led the procession of carnival floats along the seafront. They were also followed by Pat Henstock, proprietor of the Grosvenor Hotel, who brought his mini-bus along for the procession in aid of the Help for Heroes charity.

David commented, “The procession was a wonderful opportunity for the people of Southend to show their gratitude and support for those heroes who have so bravely fought for the freedom of our country.”
