The resounding message from the shops in Leigh and Westcliff is that more people need to shop locally. Small shops such as bakeries, butchers and grocers are becoming increasingly threatened by the advent of large supermarkets and they are in danger of being priced out of the market. Aptly one local butcher commented, “If you don’t use us you’ll lose us”.
