David Amess, Member of Parliament for Southend West, has attended a series of meetings with key Members of the European Parliament.

David met with local MEPs Vicky Ford (pictured) and Geoffrey Van Orden, who represent the Eastern Region, and Timothy Kirkhope MEP (pictured) and Richard Ashworth MEP, respectively the Leader and Deputy Leader of the Conservatives in the European Parliament.  He also met with Sarah Murray of the East of England Brussels Office.

David Amess, Member of Parliament for Southend West, last week met with Kurt Vandenberghe who leads the Cabinet of Environment Commissioner, Janez Potocnik, at the European Commission. David raised a number of environmental issues of concern to local residents in Southend West, most importantly the planned expansion of Southend Airport.

Earlier this week David Amess conducted several visits in his Southend West constituency with Crossbench Peer Lord Alton. In 1997 Essex-born David Alton was made a life Peer as Lord Alton of Liverpool and opted to sit as an independent Crossbencher, having stood down as a Liberal Democrat MP.

This Parliament finished yesterday in the same way it started - it was absolutely shambolic. I said at the State Opening of Parliament that there would not be enough time to get bills through all the various parliamentary stages and for the legislation to be properly scrutinised. The result is that 14 bills have been rushed through without any proper scrutiny. The only good thing is that the Conservative Party insisted on the government dropping a number of their more damaging proposals. In all my time in Parliame
