On Wednesday 22 April, Sir David Amess, MP for Southend West, visited Old Leigh with the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, Roger Hirst. Sir David spoke with the residents about issues of crime and anti-social behaviour that have been taking place in the local area.
Residents raised specific issues of drugs, drinking and violence. One of the main problems is the consumption of cheap alcohol in public spaces and as a result, the drunkenness fuels anti-social behaviour which spirals out of control.
Commenting Sir David said, “I very am much supportive of the efforts of local residents in wanting to live in a peaceful and safe neighbourhood. Much needs to be done about the violence and anti-social behaviour which is disturbing the wonderful Old Leigh”.
