Sir David Amess has been contacted by a number of his constituents who dedicated a large amount of their working careers to Ford before 1997 but have not had their pensions increased. Pre-1997 pension increases are discretionary, and Sir David is calling for these individuals’ pensions to be increased.
Sir David, along with his Parliamentary colleague Rebecca Harris MP, has written to the Pensions Manager at Ford to request that those who retired before 1997 will have their hard work and loyalty to the company fully and appropriately recognised.
On Thursday 16 September, Sir David also raised this issue in the House of Commons at Business Questions as he called for a debate on the treatment of pre-1997 Ford employees.
Sir David said:
“May I ask my right hon. Friend to find time for a debate on discretionary increases in pensions for Ford employees pre-1997? These women and men gave a great deal of their time to the company and they deserve better treatment than they seem to be afforded at the moment”.
