On Tuesday 25 May, Sir David Amess delivered a letter to the Prime Minister on behalf of Movement for an Adoption Apology calling for a government apology for adoptions imposed on young unmarried mothers during the three decades after the Second World War.
Sir David said “It is devastating listening to the stories of women forced to give up their babies. I have had a constituent contact me letting me know she was one of these parents. This must never happen again, and the Government institutions involved must issue an apology and a formal acknowledgement of wrongdoings.”
Further, on Thursday 27 May Sir David has again written to the Prime Minister, with Harriet Harman MP, urging the Government institutions involved to apologise to the women and children who have been affected by the forced adoptions.
