Sir David Amess wrote an article for Politics Home about the need to stop animal testing. Throughout Sir David’s 38 years as a Member of Parliament he has consistently championed for an improvement to animal rights and animal welfare.
As a patron of the Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation and working with many local and national animal charities, Sir David calls for medical research to be modernised and for the outdated method of animal testing to be banned.
Sir David Amess said:
I am delighted with the recent announcement that pet theft will be made a new criminal offence. We are a nation of animal lovers and we do lead the world in aspects of animal welfare, but more needs to be done. I do hope the Government’s Action Plan for Animal Welfare is robustly implemented and constantly reviewed for updates and changes. Animals are sentient beings and we should not experiment or test on them. This needs to stop.
