On Tuesday 28th September Sir David Amess, MP for Southend West, attended the ‘Hares About Town’ auction to raise money for Havens Hospice. The auction alone raised £225,391 making the overall total of money raised through the Hares About Town project a magnificent £447,000.
This summer Havens Hospice partnered with Wild in Art to create a trail of 30 giant hare sculptures throughout Southend. This project brought together businesses, schools, community groups and artists to raise money for hospice care.
Following the extremely success trail, an auction was held on 28th September to raise funds for the charity. During this event a tribute was paid to local artist Paul Karslake who passed away last year. A hare designed by Paul raised an incredible £20, 481 and will now have a permanent place at Havens Hospice.
Following the auction Sir David said “The money raised this evening for Havens Hospice is absolutely fantastic and will make such a difference to the wonderful work that the charity does. The hares are spectacular and have brought joy to so many people across Southend, and beyond, this summer. I send my congratulations to all those involved and thanks to those who gave so generously.”
