David Amess MP visited the Dementia Friends project stall at the Conservative Party Conference, to show his support for those suffering from the debilitating disease. As someone who represents a constituency with one of the highest numbers of residential homes the project is incredibly important to him, and those living in Southend West who have friends and family members suffering from dementia.
The aim of the stand was to help raise awareness of the condition: there are over 700,000 sufferers in England but less than half are diagnosed, largely due to the fact that awareness of the condition is abysmally low.
David Amess commented, “The Prime Minister has made it one of his aims in Government to support research that is desperately needed to prevent and treat the condition, and also to make sure that people are able to spot those tell-tale signs,” he continued, “it truly is an honourable cause; something that parties of all stripes can support.”
