On Tuesday, 3rd July, Sir David Amess, MP for Southend West, attended the RSPCA’s ‘The Great Debate’ event in Parliament. The RSPCA has worked extensively with children, especially in education, in order to raise awareness on issues such as animal welfare. Through their programme, The Great Debate, pupils are encouraged to use their skills for formal argument, to build their own confidence and even learn how laws are passed in Britain.
Sir David was pleased to learn about the work the RSPCA is carrying out with young people, and he was delighted to see many schools in attendance for an inaugural debate. The MP for Southend West supports the RSPCA in their mission to teach young people about the importance of animal welfare, an issue David holds close to heart, and is pleased this can happen while strengthening the young pupils’ life skills as well.
Commenting on the RSPCA’s programme, Sir David said: “Preventing animal abuse and related offenses from the start is the most effective way to keep animals safe, and children should learn this from a young age.
“I am delighted therefore that the RSPCA is engaging with young people to ensure that future generations continue our vision for an animal cruelty-free world.”
