On Saturday 18th February Sir David took part in a number of events as part of the Alternative City of Culture celebrations.
In the morning the MP for Southend West joined members of the local community for a walk around Shoebury Garrison, led by Judith Williams, to explore its architecture and history.
Later on Sir David took part in tours around local churches St Saviour’s in Westcliff and Our Lady of Lourdes in Leigh-on-Sea.
Speaking about the day’s events, Sir David said:
“I am pleased that we had such a great turnout for the walk around Shoebury Garrison. Judith Williams did a superb job guiding all those who attended around the Garrison and sharing its history with us all. I also visited St Saviour’s Church in Westcliff and Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Leigh-on-Sea, where members of the public were welcomed for guided tours around the premises. So far this month the Alternative City of Culture celebrations have be a great success with many members of the local communities coming together to celebrate the great historical and architectural elements we have in our town.”
