David Amess MP gathered his hiking gear today to support the Mountain Rescue Service for England & Wales. The independent charity also known as MREW (Mountain Rescue England & Wales) consists of highly skilled volunteers called out by the police to carry out search and rescue activities in mountainous environments. Their primary focus is to use their skill set and training to evacuate hikers in life threatening situations or to aid the lost. Today's parliamentary reception aimed to raise awareness of the team’s presence in order to obtain funding due to MREW's indpendent status meanig they have to rely wholly on private donations
Commenting, David Amess said “I thoroughly admire the courage, dedication and commitment of the rescue service in assisting desperate people in the mountains. It is important to acknowledge how they put their lives at risk for the safety of others” he added “I sincerely hope that this campaign brings them enough financial support so they can continue with their honourable duties”
