18 years ago, 5 News broke into the world of television news programming and made headlines for its new style of informative news. All this time later, following its acquisition last year by Viacom, Channel 5 continues to be a hugely successful broadcaster.

To celebrate this achievement, a Parliamentary reception was held on Monday, 23rd February, in the Terrace Pavilion of the House of Commons.

Sir David attended the event and passed on his congratulations to the 5 News team.

He said: “5 News produce distinctive news programmes that are viewed by around 5.5 million people across the UK in an average week. It is a great achievement for 5 News to have completed 18 years in the industry and I wish them success for many more to come.”
