On Wednesday 9th September, Sir David attended a parliamentary event which was celebrating the ParkLives scheme.
ParkLives is a scheme that is helping to battle the growing scale of physical inactivity in the UK. Physical inactivity is the fourth largest cause of disease and disability in the UK and costs the economy an estimated £20billion a year.
Over the last 50 years, physical activity levels have declined by 20% in the UK and the World Health Organization ranks adults in Great Britain among the least active in Europe.
ParkLives intends to tackle this issue by providing sporting activities in parks across the country.
ParkLives is an innovative public private partnership between Coca-Cola Great Britain and local authorities. Launched in May 2014, ParkLives provides fun, free, informal activity sessions aimed at encouraging people to enjoy being active in a sociable, inclusive atmosphere.
In the first year, they teamed up with the local authorities in Newcastle, Birmingham and the London Borough of Newham and, by 2020, the aim is to include 10 major cities and 20 towns across the country.
