Sir David joins Southend Youth Council at State of Child Health Reception

On Tuesday 23rd January, Sir David Amess attended a parliamentary reception marking one year since the publication of the State of Child Health report. The event brought members from both Houses of Parliament together to examine the current state of child health in the UK. 

MPs meet with members of The Gambia’s National Assembly

A delegation from the National Assembly of The Gambia visited the Houses of Parliament on Thursday 18th January. The delegation visited as part of an induction programme for the NA Members in Banjul following the recent elections in which 90% of Members were new to politics.

Notice regarding school catchment area

Following the local authorities consultation regarding proposed changes to the catchment areas of Chalkwell, Leigh and West Leigh schools, it has been decided that no changes will be made to the catchment areas.

The Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt, visited Southend Hospital on Friday 19th January to thank and praise the hard-working staff members of the local trust.

Music Man Project musicians break world record attempt

The award-winning Music Man Project UK has broken the Guinness World Record for the largest ever triangle ensemble. Run by charity Southend Mencap, the acclaimed music education service for children and adults with learning disabilities achieved 1521 players, smashing the previous record of 876.

MPs learn about Veganism at event in Parliament

On Wednesday 17th January, Sir David attended a Parliamentary event hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Vegetarianism & Veganism. The local MP was keen to learn more about dietary choices and may even be persuaded to give it a go himself!

Holocaust Educational Trust celebrates 30th Anniversary in Parliament

On Tuesday 16th January Sir David attended the Holocaust Educational Trust’s 30th anniversary event in the Speaker’s House in Parliament. At the event the MP for Southend West was joined by a number of his parliamentary colleagues to celebrate the wonderful work of the trust.
