VE Day virtual concert hosted by Southend West MP is created on Minecraft

On Friday 8th May, Sir David Amess MP will be hosting ‘Southend Salutes Its Veterans: VE Day Concert’ as part of the VE Day 75th anniversary celebrations. The concert will be available to live stream on YouTube from 16:00 and will feature a variety of local choirs, musicians and singers, as well as names such as Lee Mead, Patti Boulaye OBE and David Stanley.

Daniel Gocher, aged 11, is the 2020 winner of the EPTA Essex Piano Competition for grade 4-5 and will be playing the piano and harpsichord during the concert. He was sad that people could not visit Southend physically during lock down, so has created a virtual Southend seafront world for Minecraft users to enjoy Southend whilst watching the concert. The virtual world features amusement arcades, a roller-coaster, the pier and screens that will stream the virtual concert live.

Sir David has said, “It is absolutely brilliant that Daniel has created this virtual Southend whilst we all keep safe by staying at home and I hope as many people as possible enjoy the world that he has created. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the concert and I look forward to people seeing the brilliant performances on Friday.”
