Southend West MP welcomes Chancellor’s Budget

On Wednesday 11th March, the Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer, delivered his first Budget. Sir David has welcomed the plans which deliver on the promises to the British people, including ensuring the NHS will have more nurses and hospitals, the cost of living for the typical family will be reduced and increasing the National Living Wage.

As Chair of the APPG on Fire Safety and Rescue, Sir David was particularly pleased to see the Government’s promise to use an additional £1 billion to remove unsafe cladding from residential buildings above 18 metres as we learn the lessons from the Grenfell tragedy.

Furthermore, as a long-term supporter of, and past Parliamentary Adviser to the Caravan Club, Sir David was delighted to see the battle for fair motorhome tax making progress as the 2020 Budget committed to reversing the tax rise on new motorhomes.

After meeting with the Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP last week, Sir David congratulates the Chancellor for promising to provide £2.5 million for research to support families and vulnerable children. Sir David is a Family Champion and is pleased there is increased funding to support Fiona Bruce MP in her bid to improve the lives of troubled families.

Sir David has commented that, “I congratulate the Chancellor on delivering a Budget that carries out the promises made to the British people at the last election. I welcome the record funding increases to support public services, individuals and businesses across the UK, levelling up our economy and delivering on the Government’s manifesto pledges.”
