On Monday 9th March, Sir David Amess attended the Commonwealth Day Service in Westminster Abbey as a member of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) UK.
March 9th is Commonwealth Day this year and today’s service was attended by heads of government and representatives from the 54 countries of the Commonwealth. The theme for this year’s Commonwealth Day is Delivering a Common Future and it was the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s last public appearance as working members of the Royal Family.
Sir David was happy to meet pupils from St Thomas More, a local Southend school, at the service who were very excited to be in Westminster Abbey and see the Queen.
After the event, Sir David said “It was great to attend today’s service and be part of the celebration honouring all the Commonwealth countries’ achievements and looking to continued success in the future. I am proud to be a member of the CPA UK to help build relationships with, and strengthen parliamentary democracy across, the Commonwealth.”
