Southend Carnival

The annual Southend SummerCare Carnival  paraded through the seafront on Saturday 19th August with over 60 floats and acts. Attracting over 20,000 people, the carnival procession included colourful floats, exciting acts, dancers, bands and big costumes. The procession was led by the Town Crier, Keith Davidson and the Mayor of Southend, Cllr Fay Evans waving to the crowds from an open vintage top bus (Picture 1 and 2).Sir David Amess MP showed his appreciation of some of the floats taking part which included the Royal British Legion Leigh Branch, Save Southend A&E (Picture 4) and Southend Alternative City of Culture (Picture 5) which was raising money for Southend Mencap and the Music Man Project. Sir David thanked all those participating in the procession and the Southend Carnival Committee for putting on the event and enjoyed the great carnival atmosphere.
