On Saturday 1st December, shops across Southend will be opening their doors for Small Business Saturday to encourage consumers to shop local.
There are over 5.6 million small businesses in the UK, and they account for around 60% of all private sector employment. Shopping locally is a great way to support small businesses that employ so many people locally and serve the community.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is supporting the event for the 5th year running, offering free all-day parking in seven council run car parks. They will also be running a Best Festive Business competition, encouraging businesses to put up as many Christmas decorations as possible.
Sir David said ‘Small businesses are the backbone of our high streets, and so important to the local community. We have so many wonderful small business and shops here in Southend, and Small Business Saturday is a great way to highlight their importance and support the fantastic contribution they make.’
