On Monday 4th October, Southend West MP attended the launch of Swim England’s Value of Swimming report.
The event in Parliament was addressed by Nicki Morgan MP, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. The Chief Executive of Swim England, Jane Nickerson, was also in attendance, and is pictured with Sir David.
Each month, 4.7 million Brits go swimming. The report finds that the activity can make people feel happier and healthier, improve self-confidence and boost individual development. It has also been found that water-based activities save the NHS £357 million a year, via reduced referrals.
Following the event, Sir David said “Congratulations to everyone who has contributed to the production of this report. Swimming is a fantastic sport – from individuals who compete competitively to those who use it as an opportunity to relax and build self-confidence. I would encourage everyone to get swimming”
