Sir David speaks in debate on Grenfell Tower

On Wednesday 30th October, Southend West MP Sir David Amess spoke in a debate on the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

As chair of the All-Party Fire and Safety Rescue Group, Sir David has been engaging with the Government, the London Fire Brigade and industry experts since the tower block fire.

The debate followed the release of a report by Sir Martin Moore-Bick which focused primarily on the events of 14th June, and the response of London Fire Brigade along with other authorities. Ahead of his speech, Sir David spoke directly with LFB who confirmed to him that a number of the issues which have been raised have already been addressed, with efforts continuing to resolve those which are outstanding.

The debate was opened by the Prime Minister, and contributions from across the House focused on a number of issues raised in the near-1000-page report. Sir David concluded his speech by saying that “we should make sure that a tragedy such as Grenfell never, ever happens again.”
