On Friday 6th October, Sir David visited the construction site that will become Studio 10 (http://www.studioten.org.uk/).
This exciting new project is poised to become a flagship site in the middle of Leigh-on-Sea that will have the potential to change young people’s lives forever. The Studio is led by local philanthropist, Mel Pilgrim, who hopes to provide budding artists with affordable, low-cost workspaces, advice and guidance on how to tap into the art market and eventually produce self-sufficient individuals. All art studios will even be eco-friendly and Mr Pilgrim wants to specifically help those suffering from mental health issues.
Each student will undergo an entire year of training for free. They will be trained by professionals and helped to continue their work after their time with the charity. Moreover, an exciting Art Exchange Project will give opportunities for graduates to attend residential courses at its sister-project located in the Denia province of Spain…a direct flight from London Southend Airport to Alicante!
Sir David was particularly impressed with the scale of the project. The MP for Southend West said:
“Supporting young people to pursue their dreams and follow their passions is an incredibly important and often underestimated task. The potential of Studio 10 to support the local creative industries is extremely exciting and something which I look forward to seeing the community benefit from.”
