In a video posted on his twitter page (@amessd_southend) on 2nd January, Southend West MP Sir David Amess expressed his dissatisfaction with the service that c2c provide to local residents.
On the same day it was announced that there would be a 2.7% hike in some fares, Sir David said that he would continue to put pressure on the local trainline operators. In the video, he raised a number of specific points including the overcrowding of carriages, the inefficient ticket machines and common diversions to London Liverpool Street.
The video was seen by hundreds of people within 2 hours of being posted.
Sir David has commented, saying “Im going to do everything I possibly can to get the service back to the once high standard that it was. As a regular commuter myself, I entirely appreciate the frustration of many local people who use the c2c service to get to and from work.”
