On Tuesday 13th November, the Southend West MP celebrated the launch of new charity Gambling with Lives. At the launch, Sir David joined Minister Jackie Doyle-Price and Shadow Minister Tom Watson to support the charity’s aims to raise awareness of the dangers of gambling addiction and prioritise better treatment.
Gambling with Lives was set up by families and friend of young men who have taken their own lives as a direct result of gambling. The charity will raise awareness amongst gamblers, their families and health professionals of the potential harm, and ensure they have better access to treatment and support. They will be working together with legislators, regulators and health professional to help tackle the problem of gambling addiction.
Sir David said that he was delighted to celebrate the charity’s launch, and looked forward to supporting their future work. ‘Gambling can have a devastating impact on the lives of those caught up in addiction and their families. It is often the case that these are people in difficult circumstances, hoping for some sort of lucky break. Ensuring awareness, treatment and the right treatment are available is key, and I look forward to supporting Gambling with Lives in their important work on this pressing social issue.’
