Sir David Amess MP hears about smart meter benefits

During a special parliamentary event on Wednesday 31st October, Sir David joined experts from Smart Energy GB to discuss the impact of Britain’s smart meter rollout. The MP listened to discussion about savings, security, switching supplier, along with an update on the number of installations in Southend West.

Installed at no extra cost by your energy supplier, a smart meter wills how much gas and electricity you are using in real time, and what it is costing in pounds and pence. Information is displayed on an in-home display, which helps households to reduce energy waste and save money.

The MP has previously raised concerns about the ongoing £11 billion roll-out of smart meters, and made recommendations to improve savings for consumers. Sir David said ‘whilst the benefits of smart meters is clear, more work needs to be done to address the issues and ensure that consumers are actually reducing energy consumption and saving money. Fast tracking second generation meters should be an absolute priority.’
