I have today spoken to the Southend District Commander, Chief Inspector Ian Hughes, concerning the complaints I have received about social distancing, anti-social behaviour, drug abuse and law enforcement. He has reassured me that all the points which I have raised will be fully investigated. It most certainly is not the case that there is a lack of resources and if it were I would raise it in Parliament, but more importantly with the Chief Constable of Essex and the Police and Crime Commissioner. The powers and resources are there to deal with the situation regarding travellers and for those who are trading in drugs. I would encourage anyone who believes that the law is not being enforced and can give me particular instances to email me as a matter of urgency.
