MP Stresses Importance of Road and Horse Safety

The MP for Southend West, Sir David Amess, attended an event on Wednesday 13 June to help launch the “dead slow” campaign along with the British Horse Society (BHS) and the Petplan Charitable Trust. This campaign aims to raise awareness of the need for safety when vehicles encounter horses and their riders.

Sir David joined in encouraging the reduction of road incidents involving horses and riders by educating drivers who are not familiar with horses on the road, explaining how to pass horses while in a vehicle, and explaining the many potential consequences that come with a dangerous interaction between a vehicle and a horse. The BHS is also utilising virtual reality devices to simulate and display what it is like – for both driver, rider and horse – the consequences of a close call on the road.
