Tuesday 27th November was Giving Tuesday, the global day of giving and a reminder of the need to give charity at a time when so many people are out shopping. Sir David Amess MP encouraged local charities and businesses to get involved in the Giving Tuesday campaign and use the day to support good causes in Southend West.
This is the fifth annual Giving Tuesday has been taken place in the UK. Over 2,300 charities and businesses have now signed up as Giving Tuesday partners including Cancer Research UK, Marie Curie, Dogs Trust and Natwest.
Last year, Giving Tuesday broke the World Record for the most online donations in 24 hours, with people giving more than $64 million to good causes globally through PayPal alone. Giving Tuesday now runs in over 40 countries and is powered by Charities Aid Foundation.
Sir David said: ‘I am delighted to be part of Giving Tuesday. It is a great opportunity for charities to amplify their voice, for businesses to give something back and for individuals to support a cause that means something to them. I would encourage all my constituents to use this one day to make a world of difference.’
