Sir David Amess, the MP for Southend West, was delighted to visit Southend Mosque on Sunday, 1st July to join members of the community and celebrate the end of Ramadan.
Ramadan is a month of worship, meditation, fasting and purification for Muslims, including emphases on acts of charity, piety and compassion. To commemorate the conclusion of Ramadan, Muslims celebrate with Eid Ul Fitr, which Sir David was pleased to have been able to witness.
Sir David was given a glimpse into the religious and community life of Islam at the celebration, providing a different lens to view other religions. The local MP witnessed traditional Muslim prayers, toured the Southend Mosque, and learned more about the religion through the kind hospitality of those Mosque. Sir David is grateful to the Iftikhar Ul Haq, Imam at Southend Mosque, for extending the invitation to see the traditional and joyous celebration.
