David Amess speaks in support of Iranian opposition

David Amess MP today spoke at a rally outside Downing Street calling on the British government and the international community to “adopt a policy in support of the Iranian people’s democratic opposition movement.”

The Southend West MP urged the Prime Minister to listen to the calls of the Iranian people as they demand democracy. Mr Amess said: “their calls for democracy and freedom have fallen on deaf ears at Whitehall, where this government continues in its inept and dangerous attempts to appease a regime which massacres its own people.”

Mr Amess praised the brave men and women who risk their lives for freedom and democracy and said that supporting their struggle was not only a moral duty but also a vital part of dealing with the broader threat posed by the current Iranian regime.
