David Amess MP launches small shops competition

The search is now on to find the most successful, unique and best run small shop in the country. David said in a statement today: “Britain has traditionally been known as a nation of small shopkeepers. It's about time that we fought back to keep our small shops as they increasingly struggle against the stranglehold that the giant supermarkets have in terms of retail competition. I am inviting all Members of Parliament to run competitions in their own areas to select their “best” local shop. Regional winners will then be judged at a reception in the House of Commons in March 2009.”

To nominate a shop in Southend West, all you need to do is write to David telling him why you think it is the best small shop in the constituency.  All submissions should be made to amessd@parliament.uk by 1st February 2010.
