On Wednesday 12th December, David Amess celebrated Chanukah in the State Rooms, Speaker’s House, in the Palace of Westminster. Not only was the Speaker, Rt Hon. John Bercow MP, in attendance, but the Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks was also there to help celebrate the holy Jewish holiday. Former Speaker Martin acquired a silver Menorah which was used on the day, as is traditional.
Mr Amess, widely known as a friend to the Jewish community, commented, “I was delighted to be able to attend and celebrate Chanukah with the Jewish community in Parliament. The event was splendid, as expected, and I enjoyed my traditional doughnut!”
