Diwali Celebrations in Parliament

Sir David Amess MP joined in the festivities at the 16th annual Diwali Celebrations in the House of Commons. The event on Wednesday 31st October was attended by representatives of over 40 Indian organisations and community leaders from eight religious backgrounds.

 

Sir David Amess MP peddles for Poppy Appeal

On Wednesday 31st October, the MP participated in a static bike ride with the Royal British Legion. The 12-hour bike ride gave MP’s the chance to cycle as far as they could in five minutes to raise money for the Central Parliamentary Poppy Appeal.

Local MP backs calls to end game bird cage cruelty

Sir David Amess MP showed his support for a ban on cages for game birds at an event held in Parliament on Wednesday 31st October. The campaign led by Animal Aid and Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation, calls for an end to the use of battery cage for breeding pheasants and partridges.

Greater awareness of adult meningitis needed says Sir David Amess MP

The Southend West MP joined Shadow Minister for Health Sharon Hodgson MP to raise awareness of meningitis in adults.  The charity Meningitis Now met with MPs at an event in Parliament on Wednesday 31st October to highlight the issue amongst policy makers.

The Southend West MP joined parliamentary colleagues at the launch of a new charity, Loan Smart, in the House of Commons. At the event on Tuesday 30th October, Sir David heard how the charity is helping consumers to be fully informed of the dangers of illegal lending.

Southend West MP backs Livesaving skills campaign

On Tuesday 30th October, the new ‘Prepared to Save a Life’ campaign was officially launched nationwide in Parliament. Sir David Amess pledged to support the campaign’s calls for a lifesaver on every street in the UK, and was pleased to promote the initiative in Southend West.

Local MP Supports the Clean Air for Children Programme

On Wednesday 24th October, Sir David Amess MP attended the Clean Air Parents’ Network Reception in Parliament, where I met with parents and carers who are campaigning to protect children and babies from dirty air.
