On Tuesday 20th November, Sir David Amess MP joined the independent retailing community to celebrate and honour the industry’s successes. At the annual ceremony in Westminster, Sir David was joined by industry experts, retailers and Housing Secretary James Brokenshire.
The Southend West MP welcomed the Caravan Club to the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday 20th November to celebrate their award-winning members. Caravan club members, staff and industry guests were also joined by the Culture Secretary, the Rt. Hon Jeremy Wright.
On Tuesday 20th November, the Southend West MP added his name to the campaign to end trophy hunting. The MP joined Springwatch star and conservationist Bill Oddie at the House of Commons to support a ban on trophy hunting imports into the UK.
The Southend West MP has sponsored a Bill in Parliament that would make major changes to planning laws related to Traveller sites. The Bill is being brought forward by Andrew Selous, the MP for South West Bedfordshire, and Sir David was keen to back its progress through the House of Commons.
On Thursday 15th November, Sir David Amess MP raised with the Leader of the House of Commons the issue of ‘meanwhile leases’ and businesses rates. Many voluntary and charitable groups use these leases to take up temporarily vacant business properties, but may still face full business rates.
